HUNGER!

A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN.

The only question asked was:

"Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food
shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a huge failure................

> In Africa they didn't know what 'food' meant,
> In India they didn't know what ' honest' meant,
> In Europe they didn't know what ' shortage' meant,
> In China they didn't know what ' opinion' meant,
> In the Middle East they didn't know what ' solution' meant,
> In South America they didn't know what ' please' meant,
>In the USA they didn't know what 'the rest of the world' meant!!!

The wilderness of public health

An old saying goes like this: “When walking into a forest you will see more and more trees”. These are simple words asking for reflection and reconsideration. Penetrating a problem always implies that you discover ever more to think of all the time, so also within the field of public health. New demands, new questions and even new criticism appear constantly. In which way should public health sciences and practices develop? How to handle? Is there a key, a sort of common denominator which can be of help?

The tasks of the representatives of public health are to see, to study, to learn from and to include in their scope the ever new trees coming into sight.
But still a path is needed.

Andheri at Dusk~Sun after Sundown!

This is a picture of Andheri from the flyover facing Juhu Lane, its the heart of Andheri!
The best part is that the "ball of fire" which looks like the Sun, but is actually a street light, while the sun has long gone!

The rails make for perfect geometry & the traffic lights add to the chaos & motion!
Wish i had taken this one!

World Breastfeeding Week! 1-7th August.

Slogan: " Beginning Breastfeeding within ONE Hour of Birth: Can Save 2,50,000 Indian Babies every year!"

BREASTFEEDING: THE 1ST HOUR
SAVE ONE MILLION BABIES

The first week of August is celebrated as ‘World Breastfeeding Week’ with an objective of
focusing the attention on some important aspect of breastfeeding.

This year’s theme emphasises the importance of initiating breastfeeding early (within an hour of birth).

Scientific research has shown that every year around 25 lakh under-fives die in India and
malnutrition is directly or indirectly responsible for about half of them. Exclusive
breastfeeding alone can save 13% of these deaths. It is estimated that initiating breastfeeding
within an hour can save one million (10 lakh) babies every year.

Where do we stand in implementing this simple life saving measure? The recent (2005-2006)
National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) reports the national early breastfeeding rate (EBR)
as 23.4% while for Gujarat, it is only marginally better (27.1%). In the cultural capital of
Gujarat (Vadodara) it is 55.1%. In contrast, Oman is reported to have an EBR of 84.8%! We
have a long way to go.

In Vadodara:
86% deliveries are institutional
80% mothers are literate
6.1% only have 3or less antenatal visits but
30% are not informed about breastfeeding

It is obvious that the maternity services have an important role to play in early initiation of
breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding promotion needs four ‘C’s –

Conviction, Commitment, Confidence and Counselling skills.

All these are gained by training and practice.
Way back in 1989, the WHO/UNICEF joint statement listed 10 steps for promoting,
protecting and supporting breastfeeding. Two of these are very relevant to early initiation of
breastfeeding: ‘train all health care staff in the necessary skills’ and ‘inform all mothers (and
the elders in the family) the benefits and management of breastfeeding.

The health providers are only next to the elders in the family in guiding infant and young
child feeding practices. It is time that educational institutions and maternity hospitals have an
ongoing programme for training the health care staff at all levels – the traditional birth
attendants, health workers, nurses and doctors and to ensure that counselling about
breastfeeding is an integral part of antenatal care.

..........keep on tryin-it jus aint happened yet~Star

What cha wanna be - when you grow up
What cha gonna do - when your time is up
What cha gonna say - when things go wrong
What cha wanna do - when youre on your own
Theres a road - long and winding
The lights are blindin - but it gets there
Dont give up - dont look back
Theres a silver linin - its out there somewhere
Everybody wants an answer - everybody needs a friend
We all need a shinin star on which we can depend
N so tonight were gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before - (to find what youreLooking for)
Therell be times - in your life
Ya when you be dancin n shit - but you aint gettin it
But dont get disillusioned - no, dont expect too much
Cuz if what you have is all you can get - just keep onTryin - it just aint happened yet
Everybody wants ta be winner - everybody has a dream
We all need a shinin star when things aint what they seem
So tonight were gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before - (gotta get where youreHeaded for)
Everybody wants some kindness - everybody needs a break
We all need a shinin star when things get hard to take
So tonight were gonna wish upon a starWe never wished upon before...........!

Friends Theme Song!

So no one told you life was going to be this way.
Your job's a joke, you're broke, you're love life's DOA.
It's like you're always stuck in second gear,
Well, it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.
But, I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you, cause you're there for me too.
You're still in bed at ten, the work began at eight.
You've burned your breakfast, so far, things are going great.
Your mother warned you there'd be days like these,
But she didn't tell you when the world has brought you down to your knees.
That, I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you, cause you're there for me too.
No one could ever know me, no one could ever see me.
Seems like you're the only one who knows what it's like to be me.
Someone to face the day with, make it through all the rest with,
Someone I'll always laugh with, even at my worst, I'm best with you.
It's like you're always stuck in second gear,
Well, it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.
But, I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you, cause you're there for me too.
